About Boris Frankel

Boris Frankel, a lifelong St Kilda/Elwood resident, shares his extraordinary journey in his 2023 memoir, No Country for Idealists: The Making of a Family of Subversives. In 1956, his family's life took a dramatic turn when they moved to the Soviet Union, driven by his father's idealism. After seven challenging years, they returned to Melbourne, where Boris overcame a disrupted education to eventually become an Honorary Principal Fellow at the University of Melbourne. An accomplished author, his work on social theory, politics, and culture is widely recognised and translated globally.

About Caroline de Costa

Caroline de Costa, Australia's first female professor of obstetrics and gynaecology, shares her remarkable journey in her 2021 memoir, The Women's Doc. Filled with stories from her five decades in medicine, the book highlights her role in advancing women's reproductive rights.

An advocate and pioneer, Caroline has also authored five crime novels set in Cairns, winning multiple Scarlet Stiletto Awards for her short stories. In August, she was honoured with a gold medal from the Australian Medical Association.

About George Kyriakou

Port Melbourne resident George Kyriakou shares his extraordinary journey in his 2023 memoir, If the Shoe Fits. Born on a dirt floor in a candlelit kitchen in 1944, during the German occupation of his Greek village, George's life was shaped by moments of profound significance. Discovering his sister's grave after 65 years sparked a deep exploration of his family's history, marked by war, hardship, and resilience. He explores the hardships, the effect of two world wars, civil wars, hunger and the sacrifices they made before finally settling in Australia.

George spent more than 40 years in the shoe business after his grandfather told him he had to leave school at the age of 13 and get a job.
