Home service frequently asked questions (FAQ)

• Who is eligible?

  Home Library Service membership is for people who are housebound permanently or temporarily, due to health issues that prevent them from being able to physically access a Library branch, and who do not have another person who can collect items for them.

  Eligibility is based on a genuine need for this service based on health issues that prevent the person being able to visit the library. Port Phillip Library Service (PPLS) reserves the right to seek supporting medical advice if eligibility is in question.

• What items can be borrowed?

  Home Library Service members are able to borrow from the full range of reading, viewing and listening materials in the library, including large print and audio books, DVDs, CDs and magazines.

• How are items selected?

  Members can request the items they wish to borrow, and we can make selections on their behalf, based on their preferences current library loan policies.

• How many items can be borrowed?

  The usual loans and reservations entitlements apply to patrons using this service, but please note that the selection of items is undertaken by a small and dedicated team and this may impact on the number of items able to be delivered each time.

• How often can items be delivered?

  We can deliver library items on an agreed schedule, either fortnightly, three-weekly or monthly as required.

• How do I register myself or a family member?

  Contact the Home Library Service team in the first instance and they will be happy to discuss and assess your request to register for the service.
