Library FAQ
Library membership
We invite every Victorian to become a member of the Library Service. In most cases a certain level of personal identification will be required to join.
You can pop into one of five libraries to join in person, or you can join online and then stop by one of our libraries to complete the joining process.

Partial membership - Limited access
As implied above in the membership types table, the partial membership has limited access to collections
- 2 item loans at any one time
- Console games and Inter Library Loans are not available
Identification requirements to join
Please note: Partial registration only require a single ID document that includes name and D.O.B
Full registration requires the provision of both A) a form of Identification, and B) proof of current permanent address and a secondary (email or phone number) contact method.
Acceptable types of (A) identification
- Drivers Licence: This can be used for both requirements, identification and proof of address.
- Centrelink Health Care Card
- Centrelink Pensioner Card
- Medicare card, credit or debit cards
- Passport or Keypass
Acceptable types of (B) proof of address
- Drivers Licence (see above)
- Centrelink Health Care Card
- Centrelink Pensioner Card
- Rent receipt that includes your name and address.
- Bill that includes the your name and address

In order to cultivate a fair and equitable library service for our diverse community, we have developed a terms and conditions document.

There is no cost to become a library member, and we do not have any item overdue fees.

Facilities
We offer five library locations across the City of Port Phillip.
Each locations offers collections, services and facilities for our diverse community.

We offer bookable PCs to update your resume, enhance images and browse the internet. These PC's can booked for 120 minutes per day.
Library membership is required book and use a public PC.
Login via using your library membership number (starting with '5/') and your current password.
All five libraries offer fast and free Wi-Fi that you can use to study, stream your favourite TV binge, online game, conduct a video meeting or whatever you like.
When using our public Wi-Fi, terms and conditions apply.
We offer bookable study spaces at some of our larger locations that you can use for private study or one of one meetings.

All five libraries offer printing and scanning facilities. You can either print from a booked library PC or from home. Visit our printing and scanning page for more information.
Collections and resources
- Onsite collection browsing and borrowing
- Document printing and scanning
- Limited bookable PC’s are available at all locations for internet browsing and word processing
- WIFI is available at all library locations, offering fast internet speeds for streaming, gaming, study and browsing
- Returns are available for all libraries anytime via internal or external book chutes
- Limited study seating is available onsite, but please maintain safe distance for those around you while making use of these facilities
Yes, check out Libby or Borrowbox, both of these subscriptions offer audio books and eBooks that you can download and enjoy.
We offer apps for your smart device and web that allow you to stream movies, listen to tunes, download Audio books or eBooks and read the latest eMagazine.

We love recommending new authors, series and genres to the community.
