St Kilda Women in Music

Celebrate International Women’s Day with rock legends Fiona Lee Maynard, Genevieve McGuckin, with host Sally Moore.

International Women's Day

Join us during the week of International Women’s Day to listen to the stories and songs of two local rock legends: Fiona Lee Maynard and Genevieve McGuckin. These two guests will be interviewed by Sally Moore, the host of the Unplugged in St Kilda podcast.

Wednesday 12 March | 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm | St Kilda Library

Fiona Lee Maynard is one of Melbourne’s most formidable female rockers. As frontwoman for the band Have a Nice Day (H.A.N.D) during the 80s and 90s, she played alongside Suzi Quatro and the Violent Femmes. Her latest album, Junction (2024) returns to her folk roots with a collection of songs to form a musical memoir, recorded while waiting to donate a kidney to her husband.

Genevieve McGuckin is an Australian rock icon, songwriter, graphic designer, and long-time St Kilda resident. She played an active role in the emerging art rock/new wave scene in the late 1970s and in 1987 became a founding member and keyboardist of These Immortal Souls. Alongside Rowland S. Howard, she played with Sonic Youth, Lydia Lunch, and Nick Cave.
