Author Talk: Bruno Lettieri in conversation with Amra Pajalic and Demet Divaroren

Dive into the book "Growing up Muslim in Australia" and hear the book’s honest and heartfelt stories.

Growing up Muslim in Australia celebrates diversity, achievement, courage and determination while dispelling myths and stereotypes. 

The book is widely used in the Australian school curriculum and was short-listed for the 2015 Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year Award, the Eve Pownell Award for information books. 

This chat will dive into the book’s honest and heartfelt stories and how they were all bought together and will be facilitated by Bruno Lettieri.

Amra Pajalić

Amra is an author, editor and teacher who draws on her Bosnian heritage to write first-person stories for young people, who like her, are on a unique journey of cultural self-discovery. 

Awards: 2009 Melbourne Prize for Literature's Civic Choice Award, shortlisted for the 2020 National Biography Award.  

Demet Divaroren

Demet is an author and panellist, guest speaker and workshop leader at literary festivals, universities and schools across Melbourne. Her next novel Blood Moon Bride will be published by Allen and Unwin in 2025. 

Awards: 2018 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards Prize for Writing for Young Adults, shortlisted for a 2018 Prime Minister’s Literary Awards.
