Work placement and volunteering

Our libraries offer volunteer and work placement opportunities to the community. These opportunities vary in responsibilities and skill requirements.

Work placement

The library is happy to take on short term work experience placements, whether it be:

  • community work
  • high school placements
  • university and further education placements
  • return to work programs
  • new migrant programs

For insurance reasons, work experience must be under the auspices of an academic institution or government sponsored organisation.

The library is a popular place for work placements so we do advise that you contact us as soon as possible. There is a limit on the number of placements we can offer at a given time. To register your interest in a work placement, please reach out on our contact page.

Volunteering

The library offers volunteering opportunities to assist with visiting and delivering books to patrons through our Home Library Service.
For more information please get in touch with the library on our contact page.

If you are interested in volunteering with other Council services, please visit the City of Port Phillip volunteering page.

Employment opportunities

All available positions at the Port Phillip Library Service are advertised on the City of Port Phillip careers page.

Helpful hints for applicants:

  • Keep resumes brief and succinct
  • Remember to address all the Key Selection Criteria
  • Customer service is the core skill for all library positions
