Join us for a very special evening of poetry and live music featuring two talented and local artists.

Tuesday 25 March | 6:30 to 7:30 | Emerald Hill Library

Join us for a very special evening of poetry and music featuring two talented artists. One of our local poets Michael Crane will be talking about his life and latest book "Urban & Landscape/Ordinary Lives". He will be joined by musician Sarah Carroll who will perform her music live.

About Michael

Michael has had may poems and short stories published in Australian journals and newspapers including several appearances in Meanjin, Overland, Southerly, The Australian Love Poems and the Best Australian Poems 2011, 2014 & 2015.

He has released 15 books with small presses, ran Poetry Idol for the Melbourne Writers Festival (2007 to 2012) and published the annual Literary journal: The Paradise Anthology for seven issues. He is currently producer of Into the Limelight which are short comedy films featuring people with a mental illness.

Urban & Landscape / Ordinary Lives
by Michael Crane

Michael Crane’s Urban & Landscape/Ordinary Lives (his second in the Flying Islands Pocket Poets Series) is a book well described by its title. The book deals with city grit and with rural reminiscences – a poetry of real people – but mainly about relations among the typically nameless and unnoticed persons of everyday life.

Michael doesn’t believe writers should be the heroes of their work and that most people are more interesting than him. So the third section does not feature the author and includes poems about other people. There are poems here ranging from a woman who leaves for Cuba, to a prisoner dealing with life and death.

About Sarah

Sarah Carroll, The Ukulele Queen Of The Bellarine, has had a big year! Following the release of her 6th studio album, NQR&B, on Cheersquad Records, she and her 4-piece band The Big Fuss toured Victoria and NSW. Sarah was invited to open for Tim Rogers on his regional Vic tour in December, and in between, launched a new album with her band The Cartridge Family.

Sarah Carroll is an individual who simply oozes musicality: a gorgeous, soulful singer, a beautiful instrumentalist, and someone who has an intrinsic understanding of all manner of roots music. Her songs chime with sincerity and deal largely with her experiences as a teacher, mother, wife, political animal and touring musician, and NQR&B, out now through Cheersquad Records & Tapes, is a collection which celebrates her great loves and her singular life.
