Accessibility Support

• Accessibility PC (St Kilda Only)

  Designed with accessibility in mind, this workstation features a height-adjustable desk, as well as a large trackball mouse for easier navigation and improved control.
  
  Windows 11 accessibility features are highlighted and visual indicators including mouse pointer and font feature at a magnified setting as default.

• Audiobooks and Talking Books

  The library provides access to a wide range of audio books in both hardcopy and digital format that includes many popular new releases and steady favourites. 

  You can also download audiobooks via BorrowBox, Hoopla and Libby.

• Calm and Quiet Storytime

  This session is designed for children aged 2 to 6 with sensory sensitivities, those on the autism spectrum, and those who simply prefer a calmer and quieter environment than the larger Storytime sessions.
  
  Enjoy interactive short stories, songs, movement and bubbles in a small group. Numbers for these sessions are limited so bookings are essential.

• Dyslexic Collection

  Dyslexic Friendly Stories are books designed especially for children with dyslexia, visual stress and other difficulties reading.

  Search 'Dyslexic Friendly Stories' in our catalogue or talk with staff for more information. 

• Ebooks - Change fonts and text sizes to make it easier to read

  The library provides access to an extensive collection of e-books that can be accessed from home via BorrowBox, Hoopla and Libby. 

  With many accessibility features such as adjustable font size this collection contains many popular new releases as well as old favourites. 

• Home Library Service

  The Home Library Service is available for residents unable to visit the library in person, due to age, frailty, limited mobility, disability or other health issues.

  The Home Library Service organises deliveries to homes or aged care facilities of items selected in accordance with patron preferences or specifically requested items.

• Large Print Collection

  The library provides access to books in larger typefaces (16-18 points rather than the usual 10-12 points). Optimally spaced and printed for maximum contrast, these books include many latest releases and popular titles.

• Linford collection

  The library provides access to titles in Linford collection which are written in a larger type face and have storylines that have a small ensemble cast and are easy to follow.

• Storydogs Reading program

  Story Dogs is a volunteer run literacy program that improves primary school aged children's reading and communication skills by having them read to a trained companion dog and its handler.
