Port Phillip Seed Library

Our seed library lets you “borrow” seeds for free and grow your own plants to harvest and enjoy.

Welcome to your new Seed Library

Welcome to our new Port Phillip Seed Library (PPSL), a sustainability initiative designed to get us all growing our own flowers and food to protect the future. Anyone who is a member of our Port Phillip libraries can collect seeds each month to grow at home.

These seeds are available for collection at our Albert Park and St Kilda Libraries.

What is a seed library?

A seed library lets you “borrow” seeds for free and grow your own plants to harvest and enjoy.

It’s a sustainable way to share seeds, support local biodiversity, and encourage home gardening.

Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you can take part and help create a stronger, greener community.

Additional Benefits:

  • Encourages local food production
  • Preserves heirloom and native plant varieties
  • Reduces reliance on commercial seeds
  • Fosters community connections and knowledge-sharing
  • Supports pollinators and healthy ecosystems

How it works?

Sign up to be a member of our libraries.

You can collect two packets of seeds per month.

We will supply some basic instructions on how to grow and care for your selected plants.

We encourage all members to take photos of their plants and gardens as they develop and when sharing the images tag us using: #PortPhillipSeedLibrary
