Middle Park Library Upgrade
Middle Park Library is getting a glow-up!
We’re giving Middle Park Library a refresh and creating a brighter, more welcoming space for the community we love. To make this happen, the library will be temporarily closed from Monday 13 April to Tuesday 30 June 2026.
All other services in the building will remain open as usual.
During this time, you may visit our other branches to borrow from the collection, pick up reservations, return items, and use the library spaces. The closest branch Albert Park Library is located approximately four minutes away by car or 10 to 15 minutes by public transport.
While every effort will be made to reopen on schedule, timeframes may be subject to change due to construction works. Any changes will be communicated via the library website and in‑branch signage.

Thank you to everyone who provided their feedback on the draft concept design, as well as your feedback on how you currently use the library, what programming you'd like to see there, and whether after-hours library access for members in future is something that interests you. Your feedback helped inform decision-making on this project.
What will this upgrade include?
- New furniture, shelving and floor carpet
- Fresh paint
- Upgraded lighting
- New self-service kiosk and after-hours returns bin
- CCTV for improved safety
- Other spatial and acoustic improvements.
Can I access the collection during the closure?
The Middle Park Library collection will not be available during this time as it will be securely stored offsite during the closure.
During this time, customers can visit any of our four other library branches to borrow and return items, collect reservations and use library spaces. The closest branch is Albert Park Library, approximately four minutes away by car or 10–15 minutes by public transport.
Can I return items during the closure?
Book returns will not be accessible at Middle Park Library during the closure. If you need to return items, the closest branch is Albert Park Library located approximately four minutes away by car or 10 to 15 minutes by public transport.
Port Phillip Library Service offers automatic loan renewal (unless the item has a reservation) and we also don’t charge late fines for overdue items.
Collecting reservations during the closure
If you had reservations that were ready to collect from Middle Park Library, these will be available to collect from Albert Park Library from Tuesday 14 April. Future reservations during the closure will go to Albert Park Library for collection, or you can update the pickup location to another branch by logging into your account or speaking with library staff.
Home Library Service
The Home Library Service is available for residents who are unable to visit the library in person, temporarily or permanently due to age, frailty, limited mobility, disability or other health issues. The Home Library Service organises delivery to your home of items selected in accordance with patron preferences or specifically requested items.
If you are interested in joining the Home Library Service, please contact the library on 9209 6652 or library@portphillip.vic.gov.au
Where can I find more information?
Updates will be shared on this page as the project progresses.
We look forward to welcoming you back into the upgraded Middle Park Library.
This project is co-funded by the State Government's Living Libraries Infrastructure Program.
