Living History and Family Stories - Making sense of the past today

Join local author David Radcliffe as he shares the remarkable story behind his new book Goldfields to Graceville (2025).

Tuesday 21 October | 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm | Emerald Hill Library

Join David Radcliffe as he reflects on a fifty-year journey to document the lives of Amos and Sarah Radcliffe, their thirteen children and eleven siblings spanning three continents. Amos arrived in Melbourne in 1852, discovered the Lady Hotham nugget at the Ballarat diggings. This multi-generational story is told in the book Goldfields to Graceville (2025).

David’s presentation explores the emergent nature of the story, shaped by successive generations of their descendants. It draws on family experiences from the recent past that take us back to the world of Amos and Sarah and their extended family, illustrating how living history opened windows to their world and provided insights when telling their story through 21st century sensibilities.

This event is part of our celebration of History Month 2025.
