Celebrate Pride Month 2025 at Port Phillip Libraries

June is Pride Month, a time when people come together to celebrate and support our LGBTIQA+ communities.

Come celebrate Pride Month with us!

June is Pride Month, a time when people come together to celebrate and support LGBTIQA+ communities.

Port Phillip Libraries are thrilled to celebrate understanding, inclusivity and acceptance with a range of activities during Pride Month!

In support of Council’s vision of Port Phillip as an inclusive City where diverse LGBTIQA+ communities are safe, connected and celebrated, Port Phillip Libraries have organised a range of events highlighting the rich experiences and stories within the LGBTIQA+ community.

Stories from the Frontlines: LGBTIQA+ Activism in Australia

Join us at St Kilda Library during Pride Month for a conversation with celebrated LGBTIQA+ activists and historians, Liz Ross and Graham Willett, about the lessons of the gay liberation movement in Australia and their ongoing relevance today. Hosted by Janey Stone, founder of Interventions publishers.

Wednesday 25 June | 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm | St Kilda Library

You can reserve of copy of both books via our catalogue.

Liz Ross and Graham Willett are activists who have been heavily involved with Gay Liberation politics since the 1970s. Both of their books delve into the history of LGBTIQA+ activism in Australia before the first Mardi Gras in June 1978.

Pride Family Fun Afternoon

Bring the whole family for an exciting Pride Family Fun Afternoon!

Join us for a mini-Storytime at 2.30pm, and then enjoy badge making, craft activities and board games.

It's an ideal opportunity for families to spend quality time together while promoting acceptance and celebrating diversity.

Suitable for all ages, no bookings required.

Tuesday 10 June | 2:30 om to 4:30 pm | Port Melbourne Library

Pride Community Rainbow Project

Show your support for LGBTIQA+ communities by contributing to our giant rainbows symbolising unity, love and acceptance! Grab a paper heart, decorate it and then stick it onto one of our giant rainbows. You can also record a message of support on heart shaped sticky notes.

We encourage everyone to show their love and support by adding to our community rainbows available all month at Albert Park, Emerald Hill, Port Melbourne and St Kilda.

Rainbow Shoelace Bead Kits for everyone!

Additionally, Rainbow Shoelace Project inspired bead kits will be available at all Port Phillip Library branches for everyone in the community.

By adding the rainbow beads to your laces, you can demonstrate your support for the LGBTIQA+ community.

We encourage everyone to grab a Rainbow Shoelace bead kit and join the movement.

Bead kits will be available from June 1 until exhausted.

Children under the age of 5 will need to have an adult with them to collect a bead kit.
