The BIG Summer Read is Back!

December 1 2025 to January 31 2026

Join thousands of young readers across Australia for the BIG Summer Read, a fun and free reading challenge for children and teens. The BIG Summer Read is open to anyone aged 0 to 18. Whether you're into picture books, graphic novels, or even audiobooks, this is your chance to win prizes for reading!

Why Join?

The BIG Summer Read helps combat the summer slide, which is the loss of literacy skills over the long break. It encourages kids to read for pleasure and is a great way to keep minds active and imaginations thriving.

How It Works

Register online at readbooks.com.au/bsr (Use the link below)
Read 5 books or spend time reading on 5 different days
Log your reading through the readbooks website
Go in the draw to win awesome prizes!

Port Phillip Scavenger Hunt

Once you have signed up for the challenge at readbooks.com.au/bsr, come into any of the Port Phillip Library branches, show us you’re signed up and choose one item from a range of BSR merchandise! Limited numbers, so get in early! Once it’s gone, it’s gone!

Port Phillip Libraries will also be hosting a Big Summer Read Scavenger Hunt! Five of the BSR mascots will be hiding around our branches. Find them all to win a small prize!

Victorian Statewide Prizes

0-4 years old: Book Pack + Zoos Victoria Membership
5-8 years old: Book Pack + Zoos Victoria Membership
9-12 years old: Book Pack + Zoos Victoria Membership
13-18 years old: Book Pack + Zoos Victoria Membership

National prizes

0-4 years old: Picture Book Bundle Pack
5-8 years old: Books and Activity Pack
9-12 years old: Bluetooth Headphones
