Art Workshop with Uncle Les Stanley
Wednesday 28 May
1 pm to 3 pm
St Kilda Library
Join First Nations artist Uncle Leslie “Les” Stanley in a traditional painting workshop. You will learn about the history of Indigenous art and storytelling to create your very own painting to take home.
All art materials and afternoon tea provided.
Chromodile
You can see some of the work created by Uncle Les in the video below. His Crocodile was painted as part of the Urban Enhancement project.
It was Les’s first-time using spray paint and he took to it with ease. The medium really suited his technique. The mural depicts the Rainbow serpent and the crocodile, an animal that has not had to evolve much over millennia despite the constant changes to its environment.
The city and the rainbow serpent creator are placed in the mouth of the crocodile to symbolise the destruction of its natural habitat.
