The Port Phillip Heritage Centre has a collection of local newspapers on microfilm dating back to 1858. 

Many Australian newspapers have been digitised and are to be found on the National Library of Australia Trove website: The South Melbourne ‘Record’ newspaper has been digitised from 1868-1954 and the ‘Port Melbourne Standard’ from 1884 -1914.
