Library Service Updates

Public WIFI services temporarily unavailable from Wednesday 22 July

In accordance with current state and council guidelines limiting public gatherings our public WIFI service will be temporarily unavailable across all five library locations. We understand the value public WIFI has to our community and hope to re-introduce this service in the near future

Click and Collect Service returning Monday 20 July

Council considers the health, safety and well-being of the community to be our top priority. Mindful of the current public health situation, and as a precautionary measure to help limit the impact of COVID-19, Council has temporarily reduced existing library services to the public.

From Monday 20 July we will be offering a revised Click and Collect service, which will allow you to collect reserved items from our Albert Park, Emerald Hill, Port Melbourne and St Kilda libraries between 10 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday. You can also return items at any of these locations as well as our Middle Park branch.

Furthermore, our digital library will be open 24/7 for your reading, listening, streaming and learning pleasure.

Library Service FAQ

Council considers the health, safety and well-being of the community to be our top priority. Mindful of the current public health situation, and as a precautionary measure to help limit the impact of COVID-19, Council has temporarily reduced existing library services to the public.

The current State Government advice is that the Stage 3 lock-down will be in effect for a 6-week period from early July. Once we receive updated health authority advice that it is considered safe for libraries and community facilities to re-open, we will be there with an inviting wave to welcome people back into the buildings again.

Although our onsite libraries are not open to browse and borrow, you can reserve items and collect them at select branches. Furthermore, our digital library will be open 24/7 for your reading, listening, streaming and learning pleasure.

While our regular services aren't available, we are putting a lot of effort and resourcing into our digital library that offers heaps of e-books, e-audio, e-magazines and newspapers, music and movie streams, all accessible from home with your library card.

Once you receive your ‘Available item’ notification, you have 14 days to collect this item before it will expire. Once a held item expires, it is then offered to the next person who has the item reserved.

At this stage, if you and your family have available items to collect, you are welcome to collect all items as long as you can provide the library membership card for those reservations.
