Joining the library
Membership to the Port Phillip Library Service is free to anyone – whether you live in the municipality or not.
How to join the library
Join online
When you join online you will be immediately able to request items from the catalogue and access the library's online resources.
To complete your membership you will need to visit your nearest library branch with acceptable ID and obtain a library card.
Join online here.
Join at a branch
Simply visit your nearest library branch with ID that contains your full name and current address and we can sign you up and issue a card straight away.
Don’t have suitable ID? Don’t fret! Check out our suggestions for acceptable ID and alternatives.
Signing your new library card indicates your agreement to follow the Conditions of Membership. If the applicant is under 18 years of age they will need to obtain the signature of a parent or legal guardian who will act as a guarantor. An exception may be made for applicants who are aged 15 to 18 and live away from home, ie, do not have a legal guardian.
Acceptable ID
In order to join the library we require you to present us with ID that contains your name and current address. This includes items such as drivers’ licenses, bills and Health Care cards. It does not need to be photo ID.
If you don’t have an acceptable form of ID, don’t despair, there are options for partial membership until full ID can be obtained.
